Images from the secret archives of the former Ministry of State Security (Stasi) of the German Democratic Republic and private photographs from the same period served as initial material for the drawing series Legend. Collective and individual memories are connected with each other and arranged into fictional educational charts. A subjective introspection is combined with the apparently objective perspective of a bygone surveillance state. At that time, the term legend described the fictional biographies of the Stasi employees.

»The legend is a plausible pretext for people to be deceived about the true goals and intentions of the Ministry of State Security, to get them to divulge and betray certain desired information while guaranteeing conspiracy and secrecy of the forces, means and methods used.«
